Paris Gemmola – Firefighter.

For a Rural Fire fighting Brigade, counting a chef amongst our numbers is a real privilege. Paris Gemmola’s day job is to “cook with healthy fresh ingredients while working in a friendly team environment.” He was born in Warwick but has spent some time in New Zealand as part of his work. He says it was his lovely wife who lured him to Tamborine Mountain ten years ago, but not before he did a stint as the personal chef for Viggo Mortensen while he was shooting the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. While in New Zealand, Paris helped out with the Department of Conservation burns team and when he came to live in Australia, he was inspired to carry on helping this Community. “I enjoy the strong sense of camaraderie in the Rural Fire Brigade, and helping out the community and being amongst great people.”

Being part of the Tamborine Mountain Brigade has allowed Paris to learn a raft of new skills that are so very different to his day job – extensive First Aid, fire behaviour awareness and fire truck 4WD skills, just to name a few. In his spare time, he is an avid collector of antique bottles, enjoying a little ‘forbidden archaeology’ in his quest to locate antiques and other unique finds. Of course, as a chef, he also loves cooking for friends and family – and fellow Firies!

Paris thanks members of the Tamborine Mountain community for their ongoing support of the local Rurals and Auxilliary Fire Brigades. He reminds everyone to have a fire safety plan and to have working smoke detectors in your home. Volunteer Community Educators can come to your home to advise you of any fire safety needs. Please contact the station to arrange a meeting. In addition, while the weather is hot, windy and dry, you will see Brigade Crews,Paris amongst them, patrolling the area, looking for potential fire hazards, keeping an eye on the Mountain and it’s safety.
