Our Trucks

While most of us still call them trucks, they’re actually called Appliances. These are the vehicles that take us to the frontline of any emergency we respond to. Equipped with more than a water tank and pump, our appliances are multi-purpose utility vehicles with cutting edge advances in firefighting. We have two Medium Attack units, TM51 and TM52, one Light Attack unit TM41 and a support vehicle TM81.

TM51

Our largest vehicle in terms of size and a crew capacity of seven. TM51 is an Isuzu NPS 300 4×4 Turbo Diesel with a 5 speed manual gearbox and on demand high/low 4WD. It carries 1600 Liters of water and has a Gamm MK125 diesel pump, which, like all our firefighting appliances can empty the on-board tank in under 5 minutes on full power. It can also draft water from dams, pools, creeks, tanks and most other water sources. There is a fire retardant foam system which can be mixed at various ratios with water to provide a greater tactical, smothering and suppression effect on difficult terrain and vegetation or firefighting techniques. Assorted hoses and branches, which are the part at the end of the hose we use to control the flow and pattern of the water, are used depending on the suppression required.

Water conservation and management is crucial in ensuring we suppress the fire effectively but also have enough left for the self preservation sprinklers which can be activated during a burn over, an event a firefighter never wants to be in. TM51 has Queensland’s first high pressure, low volume firefighting pump which is independently hydraulically driven from the vehicle’s gearbox, and is superior to the standard diesel pump in terms of noise and water usage. Similar to a pressure washer you use at home, the high pressure system allows us to not only dramatically reduce water usage, enabling us to stay on the fireground for longer, but also penetrate difficult grasses, logs and other features which can be hard to fight with the standard pump system.

Like all our appliances TM51 also carries assorted tools, navigation and communication equipment, traffic control equipment, first aid equipment including oxygen and defibrillators, food and importantly bottled water as the water in the tank could be contaminated.

It carries 2000 Liters of water and has a Robin DY42D diesel pump which can empty the on board tank in under 5 minutes on full power. A fire retardant foam system. Assorted hoses, branches and self preservation sprinklers.

TM52 also carries assorted tools, navigation and communication equipment, traffic control equipment, first aid equipment including oxygen and defibrillators, food and bottled water.

The Nissan - The stormwater pipes on the roof hold two lengths of suction hose, not pretty but very effective. "The Pig" carries 600 litres just about anywhere.

TM41

Our smallest vehicle, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s the most useless. TM41 is a Nissan Patrol Diesel with an aftermarket Turbo system, on demand 4WD and front and rear differential locks. It carries 600 Liters of water and has a Davey 521-YE/HP-1 diesel pump which can empty the on board tank in under 5 minutes on full power. A fire retardant foam system. Assorted hoses, branches and self preservation sprinklers. TM41 also carries assorted tools, navigation and communication equipment, traffic control equipment, first aid equipment including oxygen and defibrillators, food and bottled water.

As a support vehicle, TM81 isn’t used to fight fire, at least not directly, hence it being white and looking rather slimmed down compared to its big brothers. TM81 is a Isuzu Dmax Turbo Diesel with on demand 4WD. It carries 300 Liters of water and has a Davey 5165H petrol pump which can empty the on board tank in under 5 minutes on full power. There is a single hose reel, branch and preservation sprinklers. TM81 also carries assorted tools, navigation and communication equipment, traffic control equipment, first aid equipment including oxygen and defibrillators, food and bottled water.

The purpose of TM81 is to support operations on a fire, this could be moving equipment and crew, retrieving food, scouting, incident control and other non-direct uses.
